BBQ Recipes

Today was the last BBQ recipe that I have, but I'm sure you out there have loads more. If you have a BBQ take a photo of your delicious food and send it to me with the recipe and you will be able to get your recipe in print.

I am getting very short of recipes at the moment so if anyone has any they would like to share then I would appreciate it.

BBQ Hot Dog

Despite the weather being as it is at the moment I am still continuing the barbecue theme with the recipes on the site this week.

Today's recipe is my daughters recipe but is one that can be made on the BBQ - hot dogs.

She loves vegan sausages and has made this simple recipe that is easy for kids (with a bit of help) and is a meal that doesn't usually last very long!

You can find the recipe here:

Avocado Sandwich

I had an avocado that needed using up and wondered what to do with it. It was very ripe so I decided that I shoudl spread it on some toast.
I put margarine on the toast first then spread on some garlic flavoured mayo, then spread on the avocado. With a bit of pepper this made a lovely sandwich. I was worried that it would need some tomato in there as well but it tasted really nice without. Unfortunately because I wasn't sure if it would taste ok I didn't take a photo but I assure you it was delicious.

Painting

I have been painting in the house a lot over the weekend and it has occured to me that paint probably isn't vegan, in fact I'm sure I read once that it wasn't. Can anyone confirm this, and is there a vegan alternative to normal paint?

Any vegan childminders out there?

I'm looking after a little boy today for a friend. She has supplied him with cows milk, meat sandwiches and fromage frais. I feel bad giving these foods to him, I know I should do what his parents want, but I wonder if anyone else who looks after friends kids has come to any compromises as far as their diet is concerned.

I am trying to increase the number of vegan drinks on the site so for the next couple of days we will be featuring drinks recipes. If you have any drinks you make that you want to share, please feel free.

Vegan parents - please help me make a stand

I found this ridiculous suggestion that vegan diets kill children on a site that encourages response.
If there are any vegan parents out there I would ask if you could back me up in saying that it is a perfectly healthy diet and that we aren't abusing our children by giving them this diet:

Abbie's coucous recipe

Abbie wanted coucous today so I showed her how to make it and put the recipe up in her recipe section.
It was a very simple dinner and could be served with a whole host of things including salad and roasted vegetables.
If you want to see the recipe you can find it here:

Vegan BBQ

After a really rainy day we had a lovely sunny afternoon so we decided to have a BBQ.

We did baked potatoes, burgers, sausages, kebabs and mushrooms. It was lovely. I have kept a note of all the recipes and will be starting a new BBQ section on the vegan recipe site soon. If anyone has any BBQ recipes they would like to share to put on the site that would be great.

Thanks for the Recipes

I just want to say a big thank you to Kathy for supplying the recipes for the next week or so. They are quite different to some of the things we have on the site already and have fantastic photos, something that I really want to start working on myself. If anyone has any hints for taking better pictures I would really appreciate it.
Take a look at the recipes at http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk.

When your children eat out

I am really fortunate that at the toddler group I take my youngest daughter to, they usually provide all vegan food for the snacks so that she is able to eat everything that is available.
Today however they had cheese on the table. I was really proud of my 2 year old when she said 'Mummy its ok because I can have my cheese at home.' She is getting so grown up now and doesn't mind at all if she can't have food that isn't vegan.

I do sometimes find it hard having to deny them food that all other children are having especially at parties when all the children are demolishing sweets as fast as they can and my kids are just watching on and wondering why the other kids are so excited by products that they have never seen. However I just have to hold on to the thought that I'm doing it for their best interest and even if we weren't vegan they still wouldn't be allowed to eat all that sugar and additives.

New Recipe up Today

Apologies for any of you who were looking for a new recipe on the site yesterday. I wasn't feeling well so didn't manage to update it.

There is a new recipe up now though and things will be back to normal from now on.

Picnic on Saturday

Due to forcasts for heavy rain we decided to have a picnic in the house instead of at the park. 10 minutes before everyone arrived I was regretting my decision as the sun was shining beautifully but it didn't last long within half an hour it was pouring with rain.

The food went down well. The kids loved the mini fruit kebabs and the dips which I served with vegetable kebabs and crudities. I also made almond slices and lemon cake both of which were soon eaten up. I haven't managed to get all the recipes on the website yet, but there are plenty of ideas for picnics on http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk.

I am thinking that now summer is near we should have a barbeque section on the site. Any ideas that you have for vegan barbeques would be gratefully recieved especially any recipes for burgers that don't break up over the heat and bbq sauces.

Vegan Picnic

I am having a picnic on Saturday with some family and friends. I am trying to think of some nice original items to have with the picnic that are vegan and also can be eaten without plates or forks. They also have to be suitable for children.

I have decided I'm going to do fresh fruit skewers, crudities and dips and supply some crunchy snacks like potato crisps.

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.

What do you cook when you need to eat fast?

Tonight both the girls were hungry and moaning needing their dinner, so I had to think of something in a hurry. So I decided to make a quick stir fry and serve it with marinated tofu pieces and noodles. They both like noodles and they are so quick that the whole dinner only took about 15 minutes to prepare and cook. What is your quickest meal and why do you use it?

Today recipe for stir fry is on the recipes for vegans site, I hope you like it. If you notice something different about the advertising on the site when you take a look its because we have decided to use a different company for our banner ads to see if we can generate more money from them. At the moment our income from advertising isn't even covering the cost of the web hosting so we are trying to think of new ways to promote the site. We have an advert in this quarters Vegan magazine and have been trying to promote it on different forums and other websites, but the page impressions seem to be dropping. If anyone knows why the site might be less popular or has any suggestions for promotion (especially if it is free!) then please let us know.
